Karachi Faces Water Supply Disruption After Cable Fault Halts Pumps at Dhabeji Station, 54 Million Gallons Affected

Water supply in Karachi has been disrupted after a cable fault at the Dhabeji pumping station caused three pumps to stop functioning, cutting off nearly 54 million gallons of water to the city. The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) confirmed the issue, while K-Electric assured that repairs would be completed within 18 hours.

K-Electric clarified that there was no full power outage, noting that 19 out of 22 units are operating normally and the disruption is limited to the three pumping motors affected by the underground cable fault. The incident comes shortly after a similar water supply disruption on October 28, when supply from the Hub Canal was suspended for maintenance.

Authorities have urged residents to store water in advance and use it cautiously until the pumping station resumes normal operations. The disruption highlights the city’s vulnerability to infrastructure faults and the need for careful water management during such interruptions.
