Romania has proposed naming a street in its port city of Constanța as “Karachi Avenue” to honor its longstanding friendship with Pakistan. The initiative aims to celebrate the growing ties between the two coastal cities and mark 61 years of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Romania.
The proposal was discussed during a meeting between Romania’s Ambassador Dr. Dan Stoenescu and Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi, where both officials agreed to further strengthen cultural, educational, and economic cooperation. In a reciprocal gesture, plans are also under consideration to name a street in Karachi as “Constanța Avenue,” highlighting the shared maritime heritage and mutual respect between the two cities.
Ambassador Stoenescu expressed appreciation to the Karachi administration and announced Romania’s decision to reopen its Honorary Consulate in Karachi. This move is expected to enhance trade relations, create new business opportunities, and promote cultural and educational exchanges between the two countries.
The proposed street naming and the reopening of the consulate are being viewed as symbolic of a new chapter in Pakistan–Romania relations, reflecting a commitment to deepening bilateral ties and fostering stronger cooperation in multiple sectors.
