Sindh Government to Revise Fines Under AI-Based E-Ticketing System After Public Backlash

The Sindh government has decided to revise and reduce fines under its newly introduced AI-powered e-ticketing system, Tracs, after facing widespread public and political backlash. Since the system’s rollout, nearly 30,000 e-challans have been issued across the province, sparking criticism from motorists who argued that the penalties were unreasonably high.

Sindh Inspector General of Police, Ghulam Nabi Memon, stated that the initiative was designed to enhance road safety and promote accountability among drivers. However, he acknowledged that adjustments were needed to ensure fairness and improve coordination with municipal and transport authorities.

While the government plans to rationalize the fine structure, the automated e-ticketing system will continue to operate as part of efforts to modernize traffic management. Officials are also addressing public grievances, including cases where e-challans were issued for vehicles that have changed ownership.

Revised penalty rates and updated procedures under the Tracs system are expected to be officially announced by the end of November, reflecting the government’s attempt to balance safety enforcement with public concerns.
