Rising petrol prices in Islamabad are encouraging drivers to adopt smarter driving habits to reduce fuel consumption. Experts emphasize that careful driving combined with regular vehicle maintenance can lead to significant savings at the pump.
Mechanic Ustad Amir from Khadda Market advised motorists to accelerate smoothly, maintain a steady speed, and switch off engines during long traffic stops. He noted that “drivers can save up to 20 percent of fuel by following these simple practices” and added, “treat your car like a tea kettle; don’t keep it boiling when you don’t need to.”
Routine maintenance is also crucial for improving fuel efficiency. Keeping tyres properly inflated, replacing worn tyres, cleaning air filters, and changing engine oil on schedule helps maximize mileage and reduce wastage. Many commuters are further boosting efficiency by combining errands, carpooling, and avoiding peak traffic hours.
Experts also recommend limiting air conditioner use, planning routes in advance, and minimizing unnecessary stops to conserve fuel. These measures not only reduce costs but also enhance driving safety and overall vehicle performance.
