The University of Tokyo ADB Scholarship 2026 offers a fully funded opportunity for international students from Asian Development Bank (ADB) member countries to pursue a master’s degree in Japan. This prestigious program allows students to study at one of the world’s leading universities, ranked 32nd in the QS World University Rankings 2025, providing access to world-class education, research facilities, and global networks. The scholarship covers tuition fees, living expenses, airfare, books, medical insurance, and other academic-related costs, allowing scholars to focus entirely on their studies without financial burden.

Applicants can pursue programs in a variety of fields, including the Department of Natural Environmental Studies, Department of Ocean Technology, Policy, and Environment, Department of Environment Systems, Department of Human and Engineered Environmental Studies, Department of Socio-cultural Environmental Studies, Department of International Studies, and the Graduate Program in Sustainability Science. The scholarship is designed to develop future leaders capable of addressing global challenges while fostering cultural exchange and international collaboration.

Eligible candidates must be nationals of an ADB member country, hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, have at least two years of professional work experience, and be under 35 years of age. Applicants should not hold dual citizenship with a developed country and must commit to returning to their home country after completing the program. Those applying for a master’s program should not already be enrolled in a graduate degree elsewhere.

The application process requires submission of a completed application form, official transcripts and certificates, a research plan or field of study proposal, and two confidential recommendation letters. Applications are submitted online, and candidates are encouraged to identify potential faculty supervisors prior to submission. The University of Tokyo reviews applications from December to February, and successful candidates will be nominated to the ADB-Japan Scholarship Program, with final selections announced by May 2026. The autumn semester begins on 1 October 2026.

This scholarship program allows students to study in Japan without the need for IELTS or Japanese language proficiency, simplifying the application process for international candidates. Beyond academic benefits, students gain the opportunity to experience Japanese culture, engage in cross-cultural networking, and develop skills that enhance global career prospects. The deadline to apply for the University of Tokyo ADB Scholarship 2026 is 10 December 2025.
