Applications are now open for the Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship 2026, offering international students the opportunity to pursue fully funded postgraduate studies in Ireland. Open to applicants from all academic disciplines and nationalities, this prestigious scholarship supports candidates with outstanding academic potential and a strong commitment to research. The program aims to nurture future research leaders who can contribute meaningfully to global knowledge and innovation.

Funded by the Irish Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation, and Science and managed by the Irish Research Council, the scholarship is one of Europe’s most competitive. Successful applicants will benefit from financial support including an annual stipend of €25,000, a yearly research allowance of €3,250, and coverage of tuition fees and non-EU student fees up to €5,750. The duration of the funding varies by program, offering support for up to two years for master’s degrees and up to four years for doctoral programs.

To be eligible, applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree for master’s programs or a master’s degree for doctoral studies. They must also be proficient in English and affiliated with an eligible higher education institution in Ireland. Prior recipients of Research Ireland funding are not eligible. First-class or upper-second-class academic results are required, and applications must include academic references, a research proposal, a statement of purpose, and valid documentation such as transcripts and passports.

Applications must be completed and submitted online through the official portal. All supporting documents should be uploaded before the deadline to avoid delays due to high traffic. Only submissions in English or Irish will be accepted, and originality in all written components is essential.

This scholarship represents a transformative opportunity for postgraduate students to access world-class education, develop research capacity, and build global networks while studying in Ireland. The final date to apply is 23 October 2025.
