Pakistan have trimmed their squad for the upcoming two-Test series against South Africa by releasing two players ahead of the opening match. Fast bowler Aamir Jamal and left-arm spinner Faisal Akram have been left out, reducing the squad size from 18 to 16 players.

The decision comes as part of the team’s final preparations for the ICC World Test Championship 2023–25 fixtures. Pakistan had initially named a full-strength squad to face the defending champions, South Africa, but opted to streamline the lineup ahead of the first Test.

The series begins on October 12 at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, with the second Test set to be played in Rawalpindi from October 20 to 24. The matches are part of the ongoing World Test Championship cycle, where both sides are competing for crucial points in the standings.
