Pakistan Thrashes Malaysia 7–2 in Sultan of Johor Cup 2025 Opener

Pakistan delivered a dominant performance in their opening match of the Sultan of Johor Hockey Cup 2025, overwhelming host nation Malaysia with a convincing 7-2 victory in Johor Bahru. This powerful start sets the tone for Pakistan’s campaign in the prestigious junior international tournament.

Sufyan Khan was the standout performer, scoring a brilliant hat-trick with goals in the 3rd, 21st, and 34th minutes. His clinical finishing helped establish early control. Captain Hannan Shahid added a goal in the 30th minute, while Nadeem Khan struck twice in the 32nd and 44th minutes to extend the lead. Hamza Fayyaz capped off the win with a seventh goal in the 52nd minute, sealing an emphatic result for the green shirts.

Malaysia managed two goals in response — Abdul Ammar scoring in the 20th minute and Kamrulddin finding the net in the 35th — but the hosts struggled to contain Pakistan’s relentless pace and attacking strategy throughout the game.

The Sultan of Johor Cup, which began on October 11, features six teams: Pakistan, Malaysia, India, Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. The round-robin format ensures each team plays five group-stage matches before the top sides advance to the final, scheduled for October 18 at the Johor Bahru Stadium.

Earlier in the day, India secured a narrow 3-2 win over the UK in a tightly contested match. Pakistan’s next fixture is against the United Kingdom on Sunday, followed by a much-anticipated clash with arch-rivals India on Tuesday, promising high stakes and intense competition as the tournament progresses.
