FIFA President Gianni Infantino has announced plans to visit Pakistan soon, emphasizing that supporting the growth of football in the country is a priority. Speaking to Pakistan TV Digital during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Infantino confirmed that he has promised a visit to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and praised the current leadership of the Pakistan Football Federation, describing the new federation president as doing “a fantastic job.” Infantino called Pakistan a “great football country” and expressed his desire to see the nation rise to the top of Asian football. He highlighted FIFA’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the sport in Pakistan, including development programs and strategic support to enhance infrastructure and training. Pakistan’s engagement with FIFA has gained momentum recently. Last month, FIFA appointed Pakistani lawmaker Syeda Amnah Batool to its Institutional Reforms Committee, reflecting the country’s growing involvement in football governance. Previously, FIFA Senior Vice President Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa visited Pakistan in November 2025, meeting with football officials and government representatives to discuss development strategies and infrastructure improvements. Football has been steadily attracting youth participation across Pakistan, with local tournaments, school competitions, and community clubs boosting grassroots involvement. International football leagues’ popularity has also contributed to increased engagement, though cricket continues to dominate the country’s sporting landscape in terms of public attention and commercial value. Infantino’s upcoming visit and FIFA’s support signal a renewed focus on nurturing football in Pakistan, aiming to improve competitive standards, expand infrastructure, and provide greater opportunities for young players nationwide.
