Pakistan Dominates Zimbabwe in U19 World Cup Encounter

Pakistan produced a commanding all-round performance to defeat co-host Zimbabwe in the ICC U19 World Cup 2026 at Takashinga Sports Club in Highfield. Chasing a modest target of 129, the Green Shirts reached the total in 26.2 overs with the loss of just two wickets, making the run chase appear straightforward.

Pakistan’s innings started with an opening partnership between Ali Hassan Baloch and Sameer Minhas, who added 19 runs in 3.3 overs before Baloch was dismissed for 3. Usman Khan joined Minhas and together they built a crucial 49-run partnership, taking Pakistan to 68 in 10.5 overs and asserting control over the match. Michael Blignaut managed to break the partnership by dismissing Usman for 26 off 23 balls, which included five fours, but Minhas remained composed and carried his side with an unbeaten 64 off 83 deliveries to guide Pakistan to victory.

Earlier, Pakistan’s bowlers set up the win with disciplined bowling, restricting Zimbabwe to 128 all out in 35.5 overs after Pakistan captain Farhan Yousaf chose to field. Nathaniel Hlabangana was the lone standout for Zimbabwe, scoring 59 off 85 balls with seven boundaries, while Brandon Senzere was the only other batsman to reach double figures, making 15.

Ali Raza led Pakistan’s attack with a brilliant spell of 3 for 16 in 8 overs, supported by Mohammad Sayyam, Momin Qamar, and Abdul Subhan, who took two wickets each, and Ahmed Hussain, who claimed one.

With this win, Pakistan secured a place in the Super Sixes and strengthened their position in Group C, keeping their hopes for a higher finish alive. Zimbabwe, on the other hand, needed a win to remain in contention for the Super Sixes, but this defeat leaves their chances slim.
