Islamabad United have appointed former New Zealand cricketer Luke Ronchi as their new head coach for the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) season. The franchise announced the move on social media, describing Ronchi as returning “home, this time leading the transformation as head coach for PSL 11.” Further details about the appointment are expected to be shared soon.

Ronchi, a former right-handed wicketkeeper-batsman, played internationally for New Zealand and Australia and was a key figure for Islamabad United during his playing career. He notably led the batting charts in the 2018 PSL season with 435 runs, earning the player of the tournament award as United won their second PSL title. That season included one of the fastest half-centuries in PSL history. Over 31 PSL matches, Ronchi scored 1,020 runs with a strike rate of 166.12 and 10 half-centuries.

The appointment comes after Islamabad United’s recent success, including their 2024 PSL final win over Multan Sultans, securing their third title. The franchise is among the most successful in PSL history, having won championships in 2016, 2018, and 2024, with strong performances across the league’s nine seasons.
