Ali Tareen Reportedly Re-Ent ers Race for Multan Sultans Ownership

Ali Tareen is once again being linked with Multan Sultans as reports suggest he is interested in returning to the Pakistan Super League franchise ownership race ahead of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s planned auction of the team. Sources indicate that Tareen had expressed willingness to reacquire the franchise at around 135 crore rupees, reflecting Multan Sultans’ earlier valuation. However, the PCB has clarified that the franchise will not be awarded through a direct arrangement and that all interested parties must participate in the open bidding process.

With PSL franchise valuations increasing significantly after recent team sales, the PCB is reportedly aiming for a higher price for Multan Sultans, targeting a final valuation in the range of 170 to 180 crore rupees. The sale is expected to be one of the largest financial transactions in the league’s history, with insiders suggesting the auction could generate more than 2 billion rupees due to strong interest from multiple local and international groups.

Multan Sultans’ franchise agreement was not renewed earlier following disagreements between the PCB and the previous owners, and the board had initially considered operating the team itself for PSL 11. That plan appears to have changed after the successful sale of two new franchises at high prices. The PCB has since issued an advertisement for the franchise sale, with the deadline for submission of technical bids set for Friday, after which the auction will determine the winning bidder.

Former owners have also sought to re-enter the process and reportedly cleared outstanding dues to remain eligible for bidding. Despite requesting the franchise’s return at a valuation of 1.35 billion rupees, PCB officials rejected the proposal and reiterated that the only way to regain ownership of Multan Sultans is through the competitive auction process.
