Indian Players Prohibited from Staying with Families During T20 World Cup

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has confirmed that Indian players will not be permitted to stay with their families during the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, reaffirming its long-standing policy to maintain focus during major international tournaments. The decision came after team management reportedly approached the board following player requests, but the BCCI declined and upheld existing guidelines. Players may make separate arrangements for their families; however, they will not be allowed to stay together during the event.

The restriction aligns with revised BCCI tour policies introduced after India’s defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia. Under current rules, family members can join players for a maximum of 14 days only if an overseas tour exceeds 45 days. Temporary relaxations granted during the COVID-19 pandemic, which allowed families to accompany players for entire tours, were later withdrawn to reduce distractions during high-pressure assignments.

For the T20 World Cup 2026, the Indian team will travel via private charter flights as part of a controlled environment strategy. Some players have retained personal chefs, though they are required to stay in separate nearby hotels, with meals prepared off-site and delivered to the squad. The BCCI’s approach underscores its emphasis on discipline, structured team management, and performance-driven preparation during global cricket tournaments.
