West Indies cricket legend Carlos Brathwaite has denied claims made by a verified Indian social media account that he commented on Pakistan bowler Usman Tariq’s bowling action. The controversy arose just days before the India vs Pakistan Group A match, after the account posted a now-deleted statement falsely attributing remarks to Brathwaite. The post claimed he advised India’s team on how to respond if Usman Tariq was “chucking” the ball.

Brathwaite responded from his official X account, categorically denying making any such comments and describing the post as false and misleading. He also indicated that he would report the account for misrepresentation, highlighting concerns over the spread of misinformation on social media.

The incident coincides with heightened debate over Usman Tariq’s bowling style, particularly a brief pause in his run-up that some view as a tactical adjustment rather than a violation of ICC rules. Supporters argue that such pauses are allowed if they do not excessively delay play, and no formal action has been taken against the bowler.

The India-Pakistan clash is scheduled for February 15 in Colombo and remains one of the most anticipated matches of the tournament, with online discussions around player actions adding to the pre-match narrative.
