BCCI and PCB Hold Informal Talks to Resolve Asia Cup 2025 Trophy Controversy

Devajit Saikia, secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has revealed that an informal meeting took place with Mohsin Naqvi, president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), to address the ongoing controversy surrounding the Asia Cup 2025 trophy, according to Indian media reports.

The dispute began after India, led by Suryakumar Yadav, won the Asia Cup final against Pakistan on September 28. The Indian team, however, declined to accept the winners’ trophy and medals from Mohsin Naqvi, who also serves as the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). This refusal led to a delayed presentation ceremony that lasted nearly an hour, with negotiations taking place backstage, ultimately ending without the trophy handover. The Asia Cup trophy has since remained under ACC supervision at their headquarters in Dubai.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed to the Press Trust of India (PTI) that discussions were facilitated by ICC Deputy Chairman Imran Khawaja and CEO Sanjog Gupta during recent ICC meetings in Dubai. Saikia noted that while the issue was not officially on the ICC agenda, a separate discussion between him and Mohsin Naqvi was arranged to explore potential resolutions.

Saikia described the talks as constructive, stating that both parties participated cordially and that the initial step toward negotiation has helped “break the ice.” He added that various options are now being considered to resolve the matter amicably. The trophy, according to reports, cannot be moved without Naqvi’s approval, which has necessitated careful coordination between the boards.

Both the BCCI and PCB are reportedly working toward a mutually agreeable solution, with a neutral ceremony being considered as a possible way to formally hand over the Asia Cup trophy. The focus remains on finding a diplomatic and respectful resolution to the situation while ensuring the integrity of the tournament and its awards.
