Pakistan Hockey Coach Tahir Zaman Declines Trip to Dhaka Over Team Selection Dispute for 3-Match Series

Pakistan men’s hockey head coach Tahir Zaman has opted out of traveling to Dhaka for the upcoming three-match series due to disagreements with the Pakistan Hockey Federation over team selection. Zaman cited interference from the federation as the primary reason for his decision, stating that his authority in choosing players was being undermined.

The issue arose when Rana Wahid and Hammad Anjum were added to the team at the last minute after joining the training camp late because of their commitments in foreign hockey leagues. The sudden inclusion of these players reportedly frustrated Zaman, who believes that team selection should follow established procedures and careful planning rather than last-minute changes.

PHF secretary Rana Mujahid confirmed the situation and said the federation is working to resolve the matter in the team’s best interest. Meanwhile, team manager Mohammad Usman will assume head coach responsibilities for the Dhaka series.

The federation has also hinted at the possibility of hiring foreign coaches if internal disputes persist, aiming to ensure professional guidance and smoother management for the national team.
