Islamabad Advances Toward Becoming Pakistan’s First Cashless City with Expanded Digital Payment Options

Islamabad is progressing toward becoming Pakistan’s first fully cashless city as the Capital Development Authority expands digital payment options across hotels, restaurants, petrol stations, and guest houses. QR code-based payments, which were previously available in weekly markets, metro buses, and government offices, will now be implemented in commercial areas and dining establishments to promote convenient, contactless transactions.

Banks are actively running awareness campaigns to encourage the adoption of digital payments, while merchants are being incentivized to offer promotions and benefits for customers using electronic payment methods. This initiative aims to streamline financial transactions, reduce cash dependency, and support the city’s transition toward a modern, digital economy.

Customers are advised to verify terms, conditions, and eligibility directly with their respective banks when availing any promotional offers, as such campaigns are managed solely by the banks and not by the city administration.
