Pakistan is set to launch BEEP, a homegrown communication app designed specifically for government officials, aiming to replace WhatsApp for official use. Modeled on China’s WeChat, BEEP provides end-to-end encryption for messages, voice calls, and video calls, ensuring secure communication across federal ministries. The rollout will initially target federal ministries and is being integrated with the e-Office system to enable secure document sharing, workflow management, and seamless official correspondence. A key feature of BEEP is that all data will be stored locally within Pakistan, enhancing data security and compliance with national regulations. Officials have emphasized that the primary focus of BEEP is security and operational efficiency, rather than revenue generation. Lawmakers have also highlighted the need for stronger oversight of telecom services and independent audits to ensure transparency and reliability of the platform. The app is expected to become fully operational by June 30, 2026, marking a significant step toward digital autonomy and secure communication for government operations in Pakistan. Go back |
