OpenAI has released a significant update to the ChatGPT Android app, introducing the full “Thinking” mode for mobile users and bringing the experience closer to the desktop version. According to Bleeping Computer, ChatGPT Plus subscribers on Android can now choose between Auto, Instant, or Thinking modes, whereas the previous mobile toggle defaulted to a lower-power “Standard” setting. The new “Extended Thinking” option allows the AI more time to process complex queries, resulting in more accurate, nuanced, and detailed responses. Users can access this feature by updating the app to the latest version and adjusting their chat settings. Currently, this toggle is not yet available on the iOS app. In addition to enhanced thinking capabilities, the Android update introduces a dedicated formatting block for emails and documents generated by ChatGPT. This feature enables users to edit AI-generated text directly within the block, eliminating the need to regenerate the entire response for minor revisions. These updates come after a busy year for OpenAI, which saw the launch of GPT-5.2 and ChatGPT Images, as the company faced heightened competition from Google’s Gemini 3 in late 2025. The mobile enhancements reflect OpenAI’s ongoing commitment to providing power users with desktop-class performance on mobile devices, ensuring seamless productivity and advanced AI capabilities while on the go.
