CATL has launched the world’s first large-scale electric vehicle battery production line fully operated by humanoid robots, marking a significant milestone in automated manufacturing. The facility, located at CATL’s Luoyang plant in Henan, is designed to take over complex, high-precision, and high-risk tasks previously performed by human workers, boosting both efficiency and safety.

At the heart of the operation is Xiaomo, a humanoid robot developed in partnership with Spirit AI. Xiaomo is capable of performing delicate tasks such as battery connector insertion and end-of-line testing. Using advanced vision-language-action models, the robot can adapt to dynamic production conditions, detect anomalies, and prevent potential damage to sensitive battery components.

According to CATL, the robot-operated line achieves more than 99% connection success, triples daily production output, and significantly improves overall manufacturing consistency. This breakthrough strengthens CATL’s position as a global leader in battery technology while demonstrating the potential for humanoid robotics to transform industrial processes, particularly in high-precision sectors like electric vehicle battery production.

The deployment highlights the growing role of artificial intelligence and robotics in modern manufacturing, offering enhanced productivity, reduced human error, and safer working environments, while paving the way for broader adoption of automated systems in the automotive and energy storage industries.
