Pakistan’s internet usage has increased sharply over the past few years, with access more than doubling since 2019, according to the Household Integrated Economic Survey 2024–25. The survey shows that over 70 percent of households across the country now use internet services, compared to just 34 percent in 2019, highlighting rapid growth in digital connectivity. Mobile phone and smartphone ownership has also expanded significantly, with around 92 percent of individuals aged 10 and above using mobile phones nationwide. Smartphone usage among this age group has reached 50 percent, reflecting greater access to digital devices and online services. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has emerged as the leading province in household digital access, with 77 percent of households connected to the internet. The data also reveals notable trends in gender and urban connectivity, as urban female internet usage stands at 71 percent, surpassing that of males. In addition to increased access, the survey points to improvements in digital skills, online awareness and safer internet practices among users. These developments reflect ongoing efforts by the government and the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority to expand broadband coverage, improve digital literacy and make internet access more affordable for households across the country.
