GTA 6 Xbox Store Screenshot Claiming 676.7GB File Size Goes Viral Online, Confirmed as Hoax

Grand Theft Auto 6 has sparked widespread online anxiety, fueled by rumors and hoaxes surrounding its release. Recently, a doctored screenshot of the game’s Xbox Store page went viral on social media, claiming that GTA 6 would require an unprecedented 676.7GB of storage on an Xbox console. The image, shared by user @TheCanadianGTR on Christmas Eve, quickly spread across gaming communities, causing confusion among fans.

Experts and gamers pointed out obvious signs that the screenshot is false. The official Xbox storefront does not list any storage size, suggesting that Rockstar Games has not finalized GTA 6’s file size and that the game is not expected to launch for at least another year. By comparison, even large titles like Call of Duty have only reached around 200GB, making the 676GB claim highly implausible. Such a file size would nearly fill the entire hard drive of a standard PS5 or Xbox console.

Despite clear indications that the viral image is a hoax, reactions continue to circulate on social media, demonstrating the high level of anticipation and concern among fans of the Grand Theft Auto franchise. GTA 6 is expected to be a large and complex game, but it will not exceed the file size of current big-budget releases by three times.
