Punjab to Deploy Drones for Agricultural Work, Transforming Farming Practices

The Punjab government has introduced advanced drone technology to help farmers protect their crops from pests, aligning with Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s “digital vision” for the province. Agriculture experts note that the sector is rapidly embracing digitalisation to improve farmer support and increase crop yields.

As part of this transformation, conventional pesticide spraying is being replaced with drone-based methods. Officials say drones can cover larger areas much faster than traditional tank-based spraying, improving both efficiency and effectiveness. Uniform application of pesticides helps control pests more quickly while reducing labour costs and limiting human exposure to chemicals.

Experts describe this initiative as a significant step toward modernising agriculture, promoting smart farming practices, and supporting sustainable, higher-quality crop production in Punjab.
