Yahoo has launched a new AI-powered answer engine called Yahoo Scout, now available in beta and powered by Anthropic’s Claude. Scout is designed to synthesize information from the web alongside Yahoo’s own content to provide clear, interactive, and verifiable answers. The interface includes structured lists, tables, digital media, and visible source links to make responses easy to check. The tool is part of a broader intelligence platform rolling out across Yahoo products. This includes AI-generated summaries in Yahoo Mail, key takeaways in Yahoo News, and detailed analyses in Yahoo Sports. Scout will also integrate with Yahoo Shopping to provide insights and shoppable links, as well as Yahoo Finance, where it can display company financials, analyst ratings, and explain stock movements in real time. Yahoo has indicated that Scout will become more personalized and offer deeper experiences over time, enhancing how users interact with information. This move follows trends in the industry, with Google introducing generative AI capabilities in search in 2023 and expanding AI features across its products, including Gmail and shopping services.
