Direct air travel between Pakistan and Bangladesh is set to resume as both countries move closer to restoring full aviation connectivity after a long suspension, signaling an improvement in bilateral relations. According to senior aviation sources, direct flights between Karachi and Dhaka are expected to commence in January, marking a significant step toward enhancing people-to-people contact, trade, and regional cooperation.

The development was confirmed following a courtesy meeting in Dhaka between Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Imran Haider, and Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus. During the meeting, the two sides discussed the revival of direct air links and reviewed broader measures to strengthen cooperation across multiple sectors.

Officials familiar with the matter said aviation authorities from both countries have formally verified and agreed on the resumption plan, reflecting renewed coordination and warming diplomatic ties. The discussions also covered ways to expand collaboration in aviation, trade, and investment, while promoting cultural, educational, and medical exchanges between the two nations.

The high commissioner informed the Bangladeshi leadership that bilateral trade between Pakistan and Bangladesh has grown by approximately 20 percent compared to the previous year, highlighting increasing economic engagement. Business communities in both countries are actively exploring new investment opportunities, encouraged by improving relations and better connectivity.

He also noted a rise in academic interest among Bangladeshi students seeking higher education in Pakistan, particularly in fields such as medical sciences, artificial intelligence, and nanotechnology. Additionally, officials pointed to an increase in Bangladeshi patients traveling to Pakistan for specialized medical treatments, including liver and kidney transplants, underscoring growing cooperation in the healthcare sector.

The resumption of direct flights is expected to further boost travel, trade, education, and medical tourism, strengthening overall ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh and paving the way for deeper regional engagement.
