Pakistan has granted approval for Britain’s Norse Atlantic Airways to operate direct flights to Islamabad from major UK cities, including London, Manchester, and Birmingham, significantly expanding international travel options for Pakistani passengers. This strategic decision is aimed at improving connectivity between Pakistan and the United Kingdom while fostering healthy competition within the country’s aviation sector.

Defence and Aviation Minister Khawaja Asif emphasized that allowing international airlines to enter the market will create a competitive environment, resulting in enhanced services, more convenient travel options, and fairer airfares for passengers. The move aligns with Pakistan’s broader efforts to open its airspace to more global carriers and integrate the aviation industry with international standards. The approval comes shortly after Pakistan International Airlines announced the resumption of its Islamabad–London route starting March 29, 2026, ending a six-year hiatus. This development coincides with the recent sale of a 75% stake in PIA, representing a significant milestone in the ongoing restructuring and modernization of the national airline, aimed at improving efficiency, profitability, and service quality for travelers.
