The Balochistan government has announced the launch of a People’s Train Service connecting Quetta and Kuchlak, with a budget allocation of Rs. 1.4 billion to be released in the coming days. Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti made the announcement during a meeting with Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi at the Chief Minister Secretariat, where discussions focused on reviving railway projects in Balochistan through a joint initiative between the provincial government and Pakistan Railways.

Officials confirmed that both sides reached an agreement in principle to develop the People’s Train Service and other joint railway projects. The federal minister described the initiative as a historic first under Pakistan Railways, noting it reflected strong cooperation between the federation and the provinces. While other provinces have shown interest in local railway services, Balochistan has taken the lead with this project.

The People’s Train Service will operate as a joint effort between Pakistan Railways and the provincial government, with Balochistan funding the construction of new stations and the upgrading of existing infrastructure. Chief Minister Bugti added that if the Quetta-Kuchlak service proves successful, plans are in place to extend it to Mastung, Pishin, and additional areas across the province, improving connectivity and public transport options for residents.
