The Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has formally inaugurated the Parwaaz Card, a new initiative described by the provincial government as Pakistan’s first card designed to support skilled youth and promote employment opportunities both locally and internationally. The programme aims to empower trained workers and reduce their dependence on overseas employment agents by providing direct institutional support. Along with the launch of the Parwaaz Card, the chief minister announced interest-free financial assistance of up to Rs 0.3 million for skilled workers, particularly those seeking jobs abroad. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, she highlighted that more than 250,000 young people across Punjab have completed technical training programmes, with over 114,000 successfully securing employment. Official figures show that around 97,000 trained individuals found jobs within Pakistan, while approximately 33,000 obtained employment overseas. To further strengthen technical education and job placement, the Punjab government also introduced additional initiatives including Creative Hands, Rah-e-Rozgar, and a Skills Development Portal. These programmes are focused on improving vocational training, enhancing employability, and connecting skilled youth with relevant job markets. During the event, Maryam Nawaz met 90 students who had completed technical training in various trades from institutions operating under the Punjab Skills Development and Entrepreneurship Department. She also interacted with transgender students, acknowledging their determination and abilities and reaffirming the government’s commitment to inclusive skill development. The chief minister stated that a central Skills Information System has been launched to monitor training institutes across Punjab. This system will track everything from curriculum delivery to the transition of trainees into employment through a single digital dashboard. She emphasized that the government provides scholarships during training and facilitates employment after completion, underscoring that public funds are being invested to secure the future of the province’s youth. Maryam Nawaz further revealed that more than 200,000 children and young people have already benefited from improved opportunities under these initiatives. She also disclosed that a government delegation has been dispatched to Gulf countries to explore new job markets for Pakistani workers, reinforcing efforts to expand international employment prospects for skilled youth.
