Oman and Turkey have announced a reciprocal visa-free travel agreement for holders of ordinary passports, making travel between the two countries significantly easier. The mutual visa exemption will take effect from November 1, 2025, and is expected to boost tourism, cultural exchange, and bilateral relations between Muscat and Ankara.

Under the new arrangement, citizens of Oman and Turkey traveling on ordinary passports will be able to enter each other’s countries without obtaining a visa in advance. The visa-free facility is primarily intended for tourism, short-term visits, and family travel, while work, residency, or long-term stays will continue to require separate permits in line with national regulations.

Omani citizens visiting Turkey will be allowed to stay for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. Turkish citizens traveling to Oman will be permitted a stay of up to 30 days per visit, with a cumulative maximum of 90 days within a 180-day timeframe. Travelers must ensure their passports are valid for at least six months from the date of arrival, and immigration authorities may request proof of onward or return travel at entry points.

The agreement follows high-level discussions between Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who described the visa waiver as an important step toward strengthening cooperation between the two countries. The decision forms part of a broader package of agreements aimed at enhancing collaboration in multiple sectors.

In addition to easing travel, the visa-free policy is linked to wider cooperation initiatives between Oman and Turkey, including partnerships in defense, energy, mining, media, and the establishment of an Oman-Turkey Coordination Council to support ongoing bilateral engagement. Oman has also been expanding its visa-friendly approach in recent years by introducing similar exemptions for other countries, positioning itself as a growing tourism destination in the Middle East.

With the new policy in place, travelers from both countries can plan trips more easily, whether exploring Turkey’s historic cities and cultural landmarks or Oman’s natural landscapes, heritage sites, and coastal attractions, without the need for prior visa arrangements.
