Norway has officially begun construction on Rogfast, which is set to become the world’s longest and deepest undersea road tunnel. Stretching an impressive 26.7 kilometers and plunging nearly 392 meters below sea level, Rogfast is a central component of the E39 coastal highway project, aimed at revolutionizing travel between Stavanger and Bergen. Engineered to eliminate ferry crossings, the tunnel will significantly reduce travel time along this critical coastal corridor by approximately 40 minutes. Its design incorporates dual traffic tubes for bi-directional flow and features ultra-deep roundabouts beneath Kvitsøy, demonstrating some of the most advanced tunnel engineering in the world. Rogfast is expected to bring substantial economic and social benefits, easing daily commutes, boosting freight transport efficiency, and enhancing tourism opportunities along Norway’s scenic west coast. Upon its completion in 2033, the tunnel will not only improve connectivity but also serve as a landmark achievement in large-scale underwater infrastructure. Go back |
