Venezuela’s ambassador to the United Nations, Samuel Reinaldo Moncada Acosta, condemned the U.S. military operation that led to the capture of President Nicolás Maduro, calling it an illegitimate attack with no legal justification. Moncada addressed the UN Security Council, stating that the actions on January 3 violated the United Nations Charter, breached the principles of sovereign equality, and disregarded the prohibition on using force against another nation’s territorial integrity and political independence.

He emphasized that Venezuelan institutions continue to function normally, constitutional order is maintained, and the state exercises full control over its territory. Moncada’s statements highlight global concerns about the legality of the U.S. operation, its impact on international law, and the potential risks to regional stability in Latin America.
