Main Structure Work Begins on Diamer-Basha Dam

The process of extracting and transporting pozzolan material from Gini, Diamer, has formally started for the Diamer Basha Dam Project, according to a statement from WAPDA Headquarters on Friday. This development marks a key step toward the construction of the Main Dam structure.

The pozzolan material gathered from the extraction will be processed and used in the Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) for the Main Dam. Following this, the placement of RCC at the dam site will commence, as outlined by WAPDA.

The launch of this activity follows directives from Chairman WAPDA Lt Gen Muhammad Saeed (R) and Chief Secretary Gilgit-Baltistan Arshad Majeed Mohmand. In response, both the Project Management of Diamer Basha Dam and the District Administration completed the necessary preparations.

On the day of commencement, Commissioner Diamer-Astore Division Azim Ullah, Chief Executive Officer Diamer Basha Development Company Engineer Dr. Nazakat Hussain, and Project Director Diamer Basha Dam Engineer Arif Ali, along with other officials from the District Administration and WAPDA, attended the event at Gini.

Consultant and contractor representatives were present, as well as local elders and ulema. During the event, the Commissioner Diamer-Astore Division and the CEO of Diamer Basha Development Company stated their commitment to further strengthen cooperation and coordination to speed up dam construction.

Local elders and ulema described the Diamer Basha Dam as vital for the socio-economic advancement of the region, expressing their ongoing support for the project's timely completion, according to the WAPDA statement.
