Motorola has officially unveiled the Signature 27, its newest flagship smartphone, pairing a large 7,000mAh battery with a 200MP periscope camera and Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor. The device succeeds the original Motorola Signature and is positioned as a premium, durability-focused handset rather than a slim-and-light one.
The Signature 27 features a 6.78-inch Extreme AMOLED Duo display with 1.5K resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate and up to 12,000 nits of peak brightness measured at a 1% average pixel level. Motorola says the tandem AMOLED panel, which uses two light-emitting layers, is up to 34% more energy efficient and offers up to 121% longer lifespan than the AMOLED screen on the previous model.
In terms of design, the phone uses an aluminum frame with ceramic and glass construction, protected by Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3. It carries IP68 and IP69 dust and water resistance ratings and meets MIL-STD-810H durability standards. At 162.01 × 77.04 × 7.99mm and 227g, it is noticeably thicker and heavier than the original Signature, which measured 7mm and weighed 186g. Motorola is offering two Pantone colors: Coal Smoke with a tactical weave finish and Capulet Olive with a textile-inspired finish.
Under the hood, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset is paired with 12GB or 16GB of RAM and 256GB or 512GB of storage. Motorola has also introduced a new ArcticMesh cooling system that combines micro-diamond-infused thermal gel with an 8,384mm² vapor chamber, which the company says is 40% larger than the previous generation. The phone ships with Android 17, and Motorola is promising seven major Android updates along with up to seven years of security updates.
The Signature 27 starts at $1,599 and will go on sale in Europe, the Middle East and Africa on November 16. The combination of a large battery, a periscope telephoto camera and extended software support places the device in direct competition with other premium flagships, though its pricing will likely limit it to buyers seeking maximum endurance and durability over a lighter build.
