The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has dismissed as fake a document circulating on social media that claimed TikTok had been blocked across Pakistan with immediate effect, confirming that no such notification was ever issued by the regulator.

The clarification followed the spread of a fabricated press release bearing the authority's name and logo, dated November 4, which asserted that PTA had decided to ban the video-sharing platform after reviewing its content and perceived risks. The document cited national security, public order, and the protection of children and young people as grounds for the supposed decision, and further alleged that TikTok was being used to spread content it described as immoral and harmful to the country's cultural and social values.

According to the fabricated notice, all internet service providers in the country had reportedly been directed to block the platform nationwide without delay. The document also claimed that the app exerted a negative influence on younger users, lending the text an air of official justification that helped it spread quickly online.

In its statement issued on Thursday, November 5, 2026, PTA rejected the notice outright, describing its claims as false and misleading. The authority confirmed that it had not issued any notification announcing a ban on TikTok, and that the viral document does not represent an official communication from the regulator.

PTA urged citizens not to believe or forward unverified material circulating on social media, advising the public to rely solely on announcements published through its official website and verified social media accounts. The authority's response underscores a recurring challenge for regulators in Pakistan, where forged notices attributed to government bodies frequently circulate during debates over online content and platform restrictions.

The clarification means TikTok remains accessible in Pakistan for now, with no new blocking order in place. Users are advised to treat screenshots and forwarded documents attributed to PTA with caution unless they can be traced back to the authority's official channels.
