Thatta Cement to Enter Pakistan's EV Market With Affordable Chinese Imports
Thatta Cement's board has approved a plan to launch a wholly owned EV subsidiary that will initially import fully built electric cars from China, targeting budget-conscious buyers.

Thatta Cement is set to enter Pakistan's electric vehicle sector through a wholly owned subsidiary that will initially import fully built electric cars from China, according to a notice filed with the Pakistan Stock Exchange on Thursday. The company's board of directors has approved the investment, though the planned amount was not disclosed.
The manufacturer said it will target the mass-market segment instead of premium electric vehicles or conventional niche categories. Its strategy centres on affordable, compact and small electric cars designed to match the mobility needs and purchasing power of a broad range of consumers.
Under the initial phase, the subsidiary will bring in completely built-up units from China. Thatta Cement indicated it may later expand into local assembly and other related activities, which would deepen its footprint in the domestic market.
The company pointed to a growing EV market in Pakistan, driven by rising consumer interest in electric mobility and the entry of both international and local brands. Government incentives and tax concessions have also supported the sector's expansion in recent years.
Thatta Cement said the move would give it an early presence in the country's evolving EV landscape and help it build a sustainable business in the sector. The firm did not provide a timeline for the launch of its first vehicles.
The announcement adds a new player to Pakistan's nascent electric vehicle industry, which has attracted growing attention from automakers and investors as fuel costs and environmental concerns push consumers toward alternative mobility options.
