ISLAMABAD/BEIJING – The Chinese-made J-10C fighter jet has become the center of global attention following its recent combat debut with the Pakistan Air Force (PAF), where it played a decisive role in Pakistan’s aerial victory over India. The jet is now being showcased at the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA 2025) in Malaysia, drawing praise from defense experts and potential buyers worldwide.

Combat Debut Turns Heads

On May 7, 2025, during a high-stakes aerial engagement, PAF’s J-10C jets reportedly shot down three Indian Rafale fighters and other aircraft, according to Pakistani officials and Chinese state media. The Chinese TV military report described this as the J-10CE’s (export version) “first combat success,” noting that the aircraft achieved its mission without any losses.

Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed the downing of the Rafale jets in parliament, while a French official acknowledged the loss of an Indian-operated Rafale. The Indian government, however, has not officially commented on the incident.

Advanced Technology, Proven Performance

Developed in the 1980s and introduced to China’s air force in 2003, the J-10C is a 4.5-generation, single-engine, multi-role fighter. It features an advanced Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar, low radar cross-section, state-of-the-art avionics, and long-range PL-15 missiles. The version exported to Pakistan is the most advanced to date.

Chinese military experts highlight that the J-10C’s success is the result of decades of innovation, overcoming significant technological challenges without relying on foreign blueprints. “Through the development of the J-10, China has mastered advanced aerodynamic configuration technologies and achieved breakthroughs in flight control systems,” said Zhang Xuefeng, a military affairs analyst.

Spotlight at International Exhibition

The J-10C’s combat performance has boosted its profile at LIMA 2025, where it is currently on display. The aircraft has attracted significant attention from defense officials and visitors, with many praising its advanced capabilities and reliability in real combat situations.

China-Pakistan Defense Ties Strengthen

China remains Pakistan’s largest arms supplier, accounting for 81% of Pakistan’s defense imports between 2020 and 2024. In addition to the J-10C, Pakistan has also acquired the PL-15 missile and JF-17 Thunder combat aircraft from China, further modernizing its air force.

Global Demand Expected to Rise

With its proven track record and advanced features, the J-10C is expected to see increased demand from countries seeking modern, reliable fighter jets. Its successful use in combat and prominent display at international exhibitions are likely to drive future sales and solidify its reputation as a top-tier fighter aircraft.
