Lahore Launches Pakistan’s First Trackless Metro

0

SRT, which stands for Super Autonomous Rail Rapid Transit, has arrived in Lahore for the first time. This new transport system is also called a “subway on the road” because it works like a metro but doesn’t need railway tracks. The vehicle is here as part of a test to see if it can be used in Pakistan’s cities.

The SRT demo vehicle was brought to Lahore this month. Right now, it is not for public use. Authorities are checking if it is suitable for our traffic, roads, and weather. If the test goes well, it may be launched officially in the future.

How SRT Works Without Tracks

The SRT system uses special Virtual Track Technology. This means it doesn’t run on real tracks like normal trains. Instead, it is guided by sensors and digital maps. This makes it cheaper and faster to set up than regular metro systems.

This technology is already being used in many cities in China, as well as in Malaysia, the UAE, and Türkiye. The SRT was first introduced in Jiangsu Province, China, in 2021. It even received a top award from the China Civil Engineering Society for being an excellent transport solution.

SRT vehicles are designed to be eco-friendly, reduce traffic, and give people a smooth and fast ride. They also use electric power, which helps reduce air pollution.

What’s Next for Lahore?

Bringing the SRT demo to Lahore is a step toward improving public transport in Pakistan. Experts will now observe how the system works on our roads. They’ll look at things like safety, comfort, and how well it handles local traffic.

There is no official date yet for when the SRT might start regular service in Lahore. Right now, it is only being tested. If the results are good, the government might bring it to other cities too.

For now, the SRT is a symbol of progress. It shows that Pakistan is exploring smart and modern ways to improve daily travel in big cities like Lahore.
