Motorway Project Worth Rs. 68.74 Billion Between Two Major Cities Likely to Get Approval Soon

The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) on Thursday referred a major revised project for the Karachi–Lahore Motorway (KLM) to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) for further consideration and approval.

According to details, the project concerns land acquisition, compensation for affected properties, and relocation of utilities along the 959-kilometer stretch of the motorway. The revised cost of the project stands at Rs. 68.74 billion.

The KLM, excluding already completed sections of 136 km of M-9 and 57 km of M-4, is regarded as one of the most critical infrastructure projects for enhancing connectivity across Pakistan.

Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal chaired the CDWP meeting, where several other projects were also approved or forwarded to ECNEC. These included the Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cancer Treatment and Research in Lahore worth Rs. 74.9 billion, and the Harpo Hydropower Project (34.5MW) with a revised cost of Rs. 34.34 billion.

Additionally, the meeting approved the construction of an eight-lane overhead bridge at Imamia Colony Railway Crossing in Shahdara, valued at Rs. 4.67 billion.
