COAS Munir Visits Peshawar, Vows to Defeat Terrorism

Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff, visited Corps Headquarters in Peshawar on Tuesday, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported.

During his visit, the Field Marshal received a briefing about the current security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, ongoing counterterrorism operations, border management, and the operational preparedness of the units stationed in the province.

He commended the morale, readiness, and professionalism of the officers and troops, recognising their dedication to the nation’s safety. He also instructed the formations to maintain vigilance and uphold high standards of operational preparedness, according to ISPR.

The army chief reaffirmed the armed forces’ commitment to defeating terrorism and achieving lasting peace and stability in Pakistan, emphasizing the support of the Pakistani people. He paid tribute to fallen personnel by laying a floral wreath and offering Fateha at Yadgar-e-Shuhada.

The visit follows a fatal attack at Kohat’s old Police Lines, which resulted in 22 deaths, including 16 police officials and six civilians, and injured over 100 people. Security forces conducted an overnight clearance operation in response, leading to the deaths of eight militants, as reported by the Central Police Office.

Following multiple recent terrorist incidents, Pakistan launched intelligence-based ground operations and airstrikes targeting militant safe havens in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including areas along the border with Afghanistan, according to the Ministry of Information.

A report by the Centre for Research and Security Studies indicated that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan have been the main regions affected by violence in the second quarter of 2026, with KP accounting for the most fatalities and incidents. The report also noted that Islamabad’s calls to Afghan authorities to prevent cross-border terrorism have not yet been met.
