France to Deploy Military Resources for Saudi Arabia's Yanbu Port Protection

French President Emmanuel Macron stated on Thursday that France will provide military support to help defend Saudi Arabia's Red Sea port of Yanbu. He described Yanbu as a crucial route for energy transportation and highlighted growing security and energy risks for Europe.

According to Macron, the assistance will involve sending soldiers, radar, and defense systems to the site. He emphasized that the intention is "not to get us involved in any conflicts, but to protect this site," during an interview broadcast by TF1 and France 2 television channels.

Recently, crude oil prices have risen as Yanbu, an essential export alternative for Saudi oil, has faced missile attacks launched from Yemen by Iran-backed Houthi fighters.

In the same interview, Macron responded to reports regarding a possible U.S. ban on diesel exports. While the White House has denied considering such a move, Macron warned that it would be "catastrophic" globally and for the U.S. economy.

Macron also addressed security threats from Russia, warning that France could experience hostile actions similar to the attempted drone attack in Leipzig, Germany, in August. He said France is increasing efforts to protect its critical infrastructure from drone and cyber threats, instructing his government to draw up protection plans after consulting French party leaders.

Macron dismissed claims by the Spanish newspaper El Mundo regarding a Central Intelligence Agency warning to European governments about drone threats from the Mediterranean, saying, "I can deny it. The CIA did not inform French services."
