Authorities in Islamabad have sealed more than 40 fuel nozzles and shut down six petrol pumps following citywide inspections that found stations dispensing less fuel than their meters displayed, the district administration said.

The deputy commissioner of Islamabad said inspection teams checked petrol and diesel measurements at filling stations across the capital. Nozzles delivering below the prescribed quantity were sealed on the spot, while six pumps were closed for the same violation.

Inspectors also seized electronic devices used to tamper with fuel measurements. Two petrol pumps were sealed specifically for using such equipment, and staff at those sites were taken into custody.

Short-filling, the practice of charging customers for fuel that never reaches the tank, quietly inflates the cost of every visit to the pump. Even a small shortfall on each fill-up can add up to a meaningful expense for drivers over time, making accurate metering a consumer-protection issue as much as an enforcement one.

The capital has acted against fuel fraud before. Earlier campaigns resulted in fines for dozens of Islamabad stations found tampering with nozzles, and the latest operation signals a renewed push to keep dispensing equipment honest.

The deputy commissioner has directed that all petrol pumps in the city be inspected as the crackdown continues, with authorities indicating that checks will remain ongoing to deter tampering and protect consumers.
