Junaid Iqbal to Lead Engro Corporation as CEO in 2027

Junaid Iqbal is set to assume the role of President and CEO at Engro Corporation in April 2027. His career covers various sectors, including leading digital platforms, finance, investment banking, and entrepreneurship.

Iqbal gained recognition for his leadership at Careem, initially serving as managing director for Pakistan, and later expanding his role to oversee the Saudi Arabian market. He ultimately became the managing director and global head of Careem Pay. Under his tenure, Careem experienced significant growth and was acquired by Uber in a $3.1 billion transaction in 2020.

Following his time at Careem, Iqbal founded two Dubai-based ventures: Salt Ventures, an investment firm supporting startups in areas like fintech and construction tech, and Caravan Media, a company focused on producing technology and business-related content. Caravan Media's first project, 'Pakistan & Counting,' features videos analyzing Pakistan’s economic landscape with plans for further expansion.

Earlier in his career, Iqbal hosted 'Power Lunch' on CNBC Pakistan before moving into finance. He was CEO of BMA Financial Services Limited, and later relaunched the Corporate Finance division at Elixir Securities, where he played a key role in privatisation deals worth over USD 1.5 billion. Among these was the sale of a 40% government stake in HBL Bank for USD 1.02 billion, noted as the largest equity capital markets transaction in Asian Frontier Markets history.

Iqbal holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Michigan and completed executive education in leadership at Harvard Business School. On his recent business decisions, he has stated that Dubai and Riyadh provide significant opportunities for collaboration and innovation, considering the Middle East, North Africa and Pakistan region as a growing hub for technological advancement.
