Karachi SHO Suspended Over Alleged Apology to Drug Peddler in Leaked Audio

A Karachi police station house officer has been suspended following the circulation of an audio recording that allegedly captures him apologising to a suspected drug dealer and attempting to settle the matter outside the legal process. South Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Syed Asad Raza issued the suspension order for Pak Colony SHO Faisal Gul after the clip began spreading on social media.

According to the departmental order, the recording reportedly features Faisal Gul and a police constable in conversation with a man identified as Kashif, also known as Dada, whom police describe as a known drug peddler. In the purported audio, the SHO is said to be trying to resolve the issue through reconciliation rather than pursuing formal legal action.

The police department has also decided to seek technical verification of the audio recording from the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), a step aimed at establishing the authenticity of the clip before further disciplinary measures are considered.

The suspension highlights growing scrutiny of police conduct in Karachi, where officers are expected to act strictly against narcotics networks. Dealing with a suspected peddler informally, rather than through registration of a case, raises questions about accountability within the force.

Officials have not publicly commented on the specific contents of the recording beyond the details contained in the suspension order. The outcome of the NCCIA verification is expected to determine whether additional action is taken against the officer and the constable allegedly involved.
