Pakistani and US Authorities Seize 463kg Afghan-Linked Meth

US and Pakistani authorities have jointly seized about 463 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, valued at $21 million, in an operation aimed at disrupting an Afghan-origin narcotics network. This information was shared in a statement by the US Embassy in Islamabad on Monday.

The embassy reported that the seizure occurred on August 30, with the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) office in Islamabad working alongside Pakistan’s Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF). The operation was also supported by Sri Lanka’s Police Narcotics Bureau and DEA’s office in New Delhi.

According to the statement, the ANF's Port Control Unit in Karachi identified suspicious containers scheduled for shipment from Pakistan to Colombo between August 14 and 29. Authorities believed these containers might contain narcotics originating from Afghanistan.

Following these suspicions, the ANF notified DEA Islamabad, which then collaborated with regional law enforcement agencies to seize the narcotics and make several arrests, including suspects of Pakistani origin.

The US Embassy also highlighted continued American support for the ANF, noting that US foreign assistance has contributed to ongoing training and helped make the ANF a key partner in counter-narcotics efforts. The statement further affirmed the US government’s commitment to working with Pakistan in dismantling transnational criminal organizations.
