Pakistan's foreign exchange reserves continued their upward trend, with the State Bank of Pakistan reporting a $39.5 million increase in its holdings during the week ended October 30, 2026. The central bank's reserves now stand at $21.56 billion, marking the third consecutive weekly gain.

The country's total liquid foreign reserves rose by $110.3 million over the same period to reach $26.9 billion. This figure combines the SBP's holdings with the net reserves maintained by commercial banks, which climbed by $70.8 million to $5.3 billion from $5.233 billion a week earlier.

The steady build-up in reserves comes as the central bank pursues an ambitious target. SBP Governor Jameel Ahmed said in recent weeks that the bank expects its reserves to reach $23 billion by December 2026 and $25 billion by June 2027.

Rising reserves are typically viewed as a sign of improving external account stability, giving the central bank greater capacity to manage currency movements and meet international obligations. The latest weekly figures suggest a gradual strengthening of the country's foreign exchange position.

The data reflects continued growth across both central bank and commercial bank holdings. Officials and market watchers will be monitoring upcoming weekly releases to see whether the upward momentum is sustained in the weeks ahead.
