Sindh Government to Reopen U-Turn on Karachi's University Road as Red Line BRT Work Continues
The Sindh government has decided to reopen a U-turn on Karachi's University Road to ease commuting during ongoing Red Line BRT construction, while also directing officials to finalize routes for the city's new double-decker and electric buses.

The Sindh government has decided to reopen a U-turn on Karachi's University Road in an effort to ease travel for commuters while construction work continues on the Red Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project. The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, where officials reviewed arrangements for routes serving the recently arrived double-decker and electric buses.
During the meeting, Memon directed officials to finalize suitable routes for the new buses and expressed hope that another batch of double-decker and electric buses would reach Karachi later this month. He called for comprehensive planning covering both operations and services, emphasizing that the buses should be deployed in areas where residents most need public transportation.
According to the senior minister, reopening the Red Line BRT U-turn on University Road will offer commuters greater convenience. He also instructed officials to take extraordinary measures to ensure the Red Line project is completed on schedule, underscoring the government's focus on delivering the transit corridor without further delays.
Memon further ordered the early completion of the remaining construction work on the second section of the Taj Haider Bridge and directed officials to monitor construction activities on a daily basis. The directives reflect an effort to tighten oversight of ongoing infrastructure work across the city.
The Red Line BRT is a key component of Karachi's expanding public transport network, which has seen the introduction of electric and double-decker buses in recent months. The reopening of the U-turn and the push to finalize new bus routes are expected to improve mobility for residents navigating the busy University Road corridor while major construction continues.
The meeting signals the provincial government's intent to balance ongoing infrastructure development with the day-to-day travel needs of Karachi residents. Officials have been tasked with ensuring that the new bus services and related road arrangements are operational in a timely manner.
