The Virtual University of Pakistan (VU) has opened registration for a set of free online courses in artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, run in collaboration with Cisco Networking Academy. The offering is part of the university's Cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence Learn-A-Thon 2026, an eight-week learning program delivered through its Professional Development Center.

According to the university, participants can enroll in nine specialized courses spanning cybersecurity, digital safety, generative AI, prompt engineering and hands-on applications of artificial intelligence. Enrollment is fully free, and learners who complete the required coursework can earn Cisco digital badges and certificates.

The course lineup includes Introduction to Cybersecurity and Digital Safety & Security Awareness, which introduce core security concepts, safe online behavior and the protection of digital information. On the AI side, the program offers Introduction to Modern AI, Prompt Like an Engineer and Build Your Resume with AI, among other titles.

All courses are self-paced and delivered online, allowing students and working professionals to study around their own schedules. VU said the program is designed to help participants strengthen technical knowledge and build skills relevant to a technology-driven job market, while also preparing them for future academic and professional opportunities.

The initiative reflects growing demand in Pakistan for accessible digital-skills training as employers increasingly seek AI literacy and basic cybersecurity awareness. Because the courses are free and run by a major distance-learning institution alongside a global networking certification body, they may be accessible to a wide range of learners, including students outside major cities.

Interested candidates can register through the Virtual University's official channels. The university has not specified a hard deadline in its announcement beyond the eight-week structure of the Learn-A-Thon, so prospective participants are advised to check the VU portal for enrollment dates and course requirements.
