Pakistan’s Monsoon Death Toll Rises to 111 Since Late June
Deadly rains cause floods and chaos as Pakistan’s monsoon toll hits 111

ISLAMABAD – At least 111 people have died across Pakistan since the onset of the monsoon season in late June, as heavy rains continue to wreak havoc in several parts of the country. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) confirmed the rising toll on Saturday, citing incidents of electrocution, building collapses, flash floods, and landslides as the main causes.
Most of the casualties have occurred in Punjab and Sindh, with several areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan also severely affected. In urban centers like Karachi, residents face waterlogged roads, power outages, and overflowing drainage systems, while rural districts in Balochistan remain cut off due to damaged infrastructure.
Rescue teams and emergency services have been mobilized in the hardest-hit regions. The government has established temporary shelters and initiated relief distribution including food, water, and medical supplies. Non-governmental organizations are also working alongside authorities to assist displaced families.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has warned that further rainfall is expected in northern and central regions over the coming days, urging people to remain cautious and stay updated through official weather bulletins. Citizens are advised to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from exposed power lines, and report unsafe structures to local authorities.
Monsoon seasons in Pakistan often result in widespread damage, but experts note that the intensity of recent weather events reflects the growing impact of climate change. Poor urban planning and inadequate drainage systems continue to worsen the effects of seasonal rains, putting vulnerable populations at heightened risk.
The NDMA continues to monitor the situation and has asked provincial authorities to maintain high alert and prepare for further emergencies. As the rains persist, the government faces mounting pressure to strengthen disaster preparedness and infrastructure resilience across the country.
