Sugar Prices Skyrocket to Rs. 190 in Lahore – Govt Deal Fails to Sweeten the Market!

Lahore: Despite an agreement between the government and sugar mill owners, the price of sugar in Lahore has jumped to Rs. 190 per kilogram, much higher than the official rate of Rs. 165 per kg.

Shopkeepers say they are buying 50kg sacks of sugar for Rs. 9,100 from wholesalers. They also claim the sacks are underweight by 100 to 200 grams, which increases their cost even more.

Retailers Struggle with Losses

Due to high buying costs and price limits, many shopkeepers say they cannot sell sugar without facing a loss. As a result, some have stopped keeping sugar in their shops altogether.

“If we buy sugar at a high price, how can we sell it at a lower price?” asked a shopkeeper in Lahore’s Anarkali Market.

This situation has led to a shortage in many areas. Customers are finding it difficult to buy sugar at the official rate.

Public Demands Government Action

People in Lahore are worried and angry. They say sugar is being sold at Rs. 190 per kg in most markets. Many believe the government is not doing enough to control prices.

“The government must take action. Sugar has become too expensive for normal families,” said a local resident from Gulberg.

Citizens want stronger price checks and regular inspections to stop overpricing and hoarding.

Government Remains Silent

So far, there has been no clear response from government officials. No strict action has been seen against those selling sugar at higher prices.

Experts say if the government does not step in quickly, the problem may get worse. Both shopkeepers and buyers are suffering because of poor enforcement and rising costs.
