A bus with Serbian license plates overturned on a highway in Croatia on Sunday morning, resulting in at least two fatalities and multiple injuries, police reported. The vehicle skidded off the road at 7:25 a.m. while heading toward the Croatian capital, Zagreb, on the A3 highway, which runs from the Serbian border through Zagreb and on toward Slovenia. The cause of the accident has not yet been determined.

Emergency services confirmed that 33 passengers and two drivers were on board when the bus crashed. Approximately 20 people sustained injuries, some of them serious, according to Dario Kezeric, commander of the Zagreb county firefighting unit, who spoke to state broadcaster HRT. A helicopter was dispatched to the scene to assist with the response.

Photographs from the site published by local media showed a damaged roadside fence and the bus lying on its side next to the road. The authorities have not released further details about the identities of the victims or the condition of the injured. An investigation into the circumstances of the accident is underway.

The A3 highway is a major route connecting Serbia to Croatia and onward to Slovenia, and is frequently used by international travelers and commercial traffic. The accident occurred during the morning hours when traffic is typically moderate. Police have not indicated whether weather or road conditions played a role.

This incident highlights the importance of road safety on busy European highways. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families, and we will provide updates as more information becomes available.
